The GIS of the Sleeping Bear Dunes Test Site (a NASA test site) was expanded to include the entire area of the Sleeping Bear Sand Dunes National Lakeshore. A copy has been delibered to the National Park Service at Empire, and they are pleased to have it. A second copy has been placed with The Leelanau School at Glen Arbor. This is a private co-ed, boarding high school with ARCVIEW and a group of students who are interested in adding info to the AATs. The data base was assembled from 13 USGS quad sheets and provides a seamless GIS with the following coverages: SBDWAT - The base map including the Lake Michigan shoreline, the shorelines of the inland lakes, and the perrenial streams. SBDPLS - The township and section lines of the Public Land Survey. SBDRDS - The road network, both paved and unpaved. SBDTOPO - The 25 meter contours for the entire area. SBDBATH - The bathymetric data for Lake Michigan from Leland to Empire, and the Manitou Islands. This layer was compiled from the US Lake Survey Chart for the Mantou Passage. SBDSOIL - USDA Soil Survey. Polygons are in for part of the area but none of the attribute data have been entered. It is my intention to continue this development during the fall and winter, completing the Spoil layer and adding the North Manitou Island map sheet to the present base. A cooperative project with the National Park Service, The Leelanau School and us is the way this is developing.
